Our energetic and inquisitive African penguins are visitor favorites.
We feed the African penguins in our Splash Zone exhibit multiple times a day, sometimes by hand to make sure they get their daily vitamin, and sometimes by tossing food into the water to stimulate foraging behavior. Watch for underwater acrobatics as the penguins dart and dive to catch their fish.
The newest addition to our African penguin colony came out of its shell on July 7! This adorable, fluffy chick will stay on exhibit with its parents in Splash Zone until it becomes more mobile, and then move behind the scenes for a few months. Follow us on social media for updates!
In our Underwater Explorers program, kids ages eight to 13 can encounter amazing animals and discover the wonders of Monterey Bay while being safely guided by Aquarium dive staff in our Great Tide Pool. No experience is necessary, only a sense of adventure!
The Aquarium's curator of birds journeyed to South Africa to help rescue and rehabilitate endangered African penguins in their native habitat. Though she's worked with our Splash Zone colony for over a decade, this was the first time she'd seen our penguins' wild kin.
Hop aboard the MST trolley for a fast, fun and free ride to the Aquarium! The trolley runs every 10 to 15 minutes with stops in downtown Monterey, Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row and the Aquarium. Look for the electric trolley in the fleet for an emission-free trip!
Our standards-based curriculum has been developed to provide educators with easy-to-use, Aquarium-centered science activities for the classroom.
